OBITUARY

Andy Anderson, 71, of Beaufort, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at his home. Andy was truly a man for all seasons….. artist, author, boat captain, CIA cold war warrior, navy pilot, sailor, Rotarian, friend, husband, father and grandfather. Andy was the Citizen of the Year for the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce for 2008.
He attended Alabama and Auburn Universities and graduated from Tulane.
He was a citizen of the World… living most of his working career in foreign countries. His last assignment was in Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean where he met Marlene. They married there, while he was the first non Seychelloius Commodore of the Seychelles Yacht Club. He sailed his yacht, the Ariane, to France then thru Belgium and Holland.
He chose Beaufort as his last port of call, and for the first time in his life bought a motor vessel. Renamed her the Shackleford and started Capt. Andy's Tours out of the Morehead Waterfront. Capt. Andy soon became the favorite of school groups -- he let kids "steer" his massive steel vessel. His photo with them is right alongside Santa on refrigerators all throughout the United States.
Diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2004, he started a Support group which soon became a 'family'. This group raises funds to educate physicians, clinicians, therapists at the National Parkinsons Foundation Team II training. To date eleven Carteret Countians have attended this training and can now better treat patients with motor disorders. This will be a living legacy. Andy's motto was "Never Step Back" and he didn't -- he was, and still is "Just Right".

SERVICES
There will be a celebration of his life and the many faces of Capt. Andy at 2:00 p.m. on January 17, 2009 at The History Place, Morehead City and his burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery later on in 2009.
